Feb 18, 2004 : TedBrunt : I remember when my friend had to phone William Gibson. The X Files were using Gibson to write a few episodes, and she was in charge of reviewing scripts before they got to Chris Carter. Gibson had to be corrected on his use of "upload" & "download" - he said he often got them confused. As amazing a writer as he is, the guy is not a plugged in geek. Which makes sense. But in this article for the Philadelphia Enquirer, he mentions one of the epiphanies he had:

"I remember [in the early '80s] seeing posters for the small, semi-portable version of the Apple IIc," he says. "Quite a lot of what I subsequently imagined in my early science fiction simply came from seeing that ad in a bus stop. I didn't know anything about it technologically. I just thought if it's that small and that nicely styled, everything is changing."

I remember when I got my first computer - it was an Apple IIc, and the thing I remember most about it was the superb documentation and packaging. I know, dumb stuff for a computer when you want speed and apps, but it was the same kind of moment for me - I knew that this approach was going to change everything about computers. I knew that if someone was going to make the things approachable by the average person, all hell was gonna break loose.

Feb 18, 2004 : TedBrunt : Checked out The Geek Hierarchy? I recognize a few of you on this list....

Feb 17, 2004 : TedBrunt : Forgot that Marc sent me this article from EGM about kids playing old games. Hysterical, and something to think about when making games based on classics.

Feb 17, 2004 : TedBrunt : Mike sent me this - extremely neato....Gallery of Network Images.

Feb 16, 2004 ; TedBrunt ; I thought my parents were a bit packratish. I stand corrected.

Feb 16, 2004 ; TedBrunt : Home. Fever. Woozy. And still, I think my next gig should be with National Geo. Check out the Critter Cams. Cool.
...and if you click on the CRITTER CAM TEAM, you'll find my alter ego.

Feb 15, 2004 : TedBrunt : Cool - Dave McKean is featured on Apple's site regarding his illustrations.

Feb 14, 2004 : TedBrunt : MoviesMyKidsShouldSee. I was thinking that there are like a hundred movies that you just know if you do or will have kids, that they should see. Feel free to add to them. But man, I hope I don't turn out like one of those people who are like "Movies today are crap. They don't make films like Road to Zanzibar. That Bob Hope could act."

Feb 13, 2004 : TedBrunt : Man, you can buy Jenny's phone number on eBay!!!

Feb 13, 2004 : TedBrunt : Today's pre-Valentine message:

Feb 12, 2004 : TedBrunt : Check out the coolest & weirdest thing I've ever seen on eBay. A haunted dibbuk box. Well, for those .......that BELIEVE.....

Feb 12, 2004 : TedBrunt : UT 2004 demos out today for Mac & PC. We all start fresh at the same level. Get your fingers twitchin'!

Feb. 12, 2004 : TedBrunt : Today, I witnessed my first "air-kiss" while at the CBC. It was in fact a version I had not seen; a double one-side, double-the-other, extremely rare "quad" air kiss. In an elevator, no less. I burst out laughing, and managed to make it to my floor before they noticed. There are many reasons I no longer officially work in television. I do believe that this qualifies as one reason.

Feb 12, 2004 : TedBrunt : Always debug your code. Otherwise, you could put 55 million people in the dark.

Feb 11, 2004 : TedBrunt : White America, one of the coolest bits of flash animation I've seen. Uses all sorts of slippery tricks to the best result. Rated R for all you juniorz.

Feb 11, 2004 : TedBrunt : I can't help it - I think making crank calls with soundboards is just hysterical. Sue me.

Feb 11, 2004 : TedBrunt : Here goes Cory Doctorow again, doing a speech for the EFF at ETCON. Thanks to the dudes @ ibilio who put it online. Weird to think Cory was on the TVO BBS, and even behind the counter @ Bakka Books. He's a well-thought-out guy with a lot to say.

Feb 10, 2004 : TedBrunt : Squeezebox My fave mp3 audio box. I think I'm getting the hang o' this now - thanks for the tips jer

Feb 10, 2004 : EngineerBrunt : These guys built a Turing machine out of trains. it works.

Feb 10, 2004 : StrongTed : Where the hell are you guys? I guess you have lives. I am alone. ALL ALONE IN THE WEB. Mental note. Cory was at O'Reilly Emerging Tech, and took wicked notes from the Disney: RSS preso. here's the link. I've been thinking of looking into this deeper, as it makes sense from the hi-band perspective. I need to learn more about RSS. Interestingly, Disney uses Wiki for institutional knowledge in some cases. Never thought the mouse capable. Trevor, we should ramp up a Wiki @ cbc instead of that infernal Groupwise. I know that the forum software, WebX, has included this. Of course, must do whatever possible to avoid IT. Some things never change no matter where you work.

Feb 9, 2004 : TedBrunt : Match Game, one of the great 1970's game shows. Can still hear that guitar.

Feb 9. 2004 : TedBrunt : Just goofing to see if I have enough skillz to plop an image in here...

Feb 9. 2004 : TedBrunt : So here's a piece o' software I WAS using for my blog - I like the features, and the offline capability. I wish they had a PC version though, and I'm not entirely sure that we could group it, tho I don't see why not. Here's the blog I made with it in a few hours. Worth a look just for the pretty file mgt. and date navigation. .

Feb 9, 2004 : TedBrunt : DVD Viewing : A reminder to me to get that Atari DVD.

Feb 9, 2004 : TedBrunt : Definitely up my alley.....anti-Valentine's Day cards. Including my current fave, "I have feelings for you, but I thought I'd let this card do all the work because I haven't got the imagination or energy to let you know in my own words." Gold.

Feb 9, 2004 : TedBrunt : Writers Neil Gaiman has a blog. It's terrific and loaded with advice for writers, and just some gererally amusing stuff that floats through his head.

Feb 8, 2004 : TedBrunt : Saw this on boing boing by cory doctorow, who found it on slashdot & etc.
